"As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are My ways above your ways and My thoughts above your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:9).
There’s no doubt about it – there are times when we just can’t understand why God does not see things our way. Why doesn’t he just give us the job we want or the healing we are asking for or the reconciliation we long for? It would make so much sense, Lord, just to do what I’m asking.
But we also know that, in this life at least, we won’t always understand God’s ways. Today’s Gospel illustrates this point exactly. Who would pay the same wage to the laborer who arrived early and the one who arrived an hour before quitting time? Only God can be so generous as to want to care equally for all those who come to God, whether they arrive early or come much later.
Throughout the Church in the United States we celebrate this Sunday Catechetical Sunday. We give thanks for all the women and men who have volunteered to teach in our Religious Education Program and help the parents of our children be those FIRST TEACHERS OF THE FAITH. Their shared mission will be to reveal to them in words and deeds this God of generosity and extraordinary care for them. Together as a Parish family and in this Pandemic Moment, I am especially grateful to them as the interim director of our new Online Program at St. Aedan’s. Please pray with me in thanksgiving for: Kieran, Joy, Reina, Maria, Fernanda, Susan, Valeria, Lisa, Renee, Maria and Rene. I also thank the parents and guardians for their desire to invite us in to their mission of guiding their children in the ways of faith. I pledge to them and the entire St. Aedan’s Parish Family that we will work hard this year to help these beautiful young people to grow in a sense of this generous, loving and merciful God for us!
Finally, I invite all of us to mark your calendars and reserve your spot for next Sunday’s, “Coffee & Conversation on our Social Justice Concerns at St. Aedan’s” at 2:30 p.m.I look forward to seeing you there and listening to your Social Justice concerns and desires as a Parish family.
“Así como aventajan los cielos a la tierra, así aventajan mis pensamientos a sus pensamientos.” (Isaías 55, 9)
No cabe duda. Hay momentos cuando no comprendemos a Dios, ni entendemos porque Dios no ve el mundo con nuestros ojos. Nos quejamos diciendo: “Por qué Dios no me da el puesto que le pide? ¿Por qué Dios no me ofrece la reconciliación que deseo? Acaso no sería mucho más fácil, Señor, darme lo que te pido?”
Sin embargo está claro que no entendemos siempre los caminos de Dios — tal como el Evangelio de hoy nos lo enseña. ¿Acaso un dueño astuto les daría a los obreros que fueron contratados a la última hora el mismo sueldo que les paga a los obreros que comenzarona trabajar al amanecer? Pues solo Dios, en su gran generosidad, da el mismo pago a todos los obreros, a los últimos como a los primeros.
Con toda la Iglesia de este país, celebramos hoy el Domingo Catequético. Le damos gracias a Dios por todas las mujeres y todos los hombres que se han ofrecido voluntariamente y sirven como maestros en nuestro Programa de Educación Religiosa . Estos mismos maestros ayudarán a los padres de familia a enseñarles a los hijos nuestra fe católica. Ambos, padres y maestros, tienen la misma misión, la de enseñar a los hijos, por sus palabras y por sus acciones, la bondad de Dios, que se preocupa por los hijos con generosidad extraordinaria.
Hablando por nuestra familia parroquial y en medio de una pandemia feroz, yo, el Director interino de nuestro programa virtual, le agradezco al equipo catequético su generosidad. Pido que todos oren conmigo, dando gracias a Dios por el equipo: Kieran, Joy, Reina, María, Fernanda, Susan, Valeria, Lisa, Renee, María y Rene.
Además les doy gracias a los padres de familia y a los tutores de los niños por dejarnos participar con ellos en la misión de guiar a los hijos en los caminos de la fe. Me comprometo a los hijos y a toda la familia de San Aedan, a esforzarnos este año, de modo que nuestros hijos preciosos conozcan cada día más la generosidad, amor y misericordia de Dios.
Por fin, les invito a todos a separar una fecha importante, reservar un cupo virtual, y participar en el Diálogo que tendrá lugar el próximo domingo (27 de septiembre) por Zoom a las 2:30 pm. El Diálogo se llama “Conversación con café sobre los asuntos de justicia social en nuestra parroquia.” Cuento con verles a todos y tengo ganas de escucharles a todos los miembros de nuestra familia parroquial.
